The College of Arts and Sciences is
committed to its four-fold role within the university:
- To provide each student with a liberal
arts education through the university's core curriculum
- To provide quality educational
opportunities to students completing major, minor and certificate
programs within the Arts and Sciences' curriculum
- To provide curricular support for
students majoring in programs in the College of Education and
the College of Health Professions.
- To serve as a resource for community
and economic development through the teaching, research and
service contributions of students and faculty.
Beyond our contributions to the community
as a whole, we take particular pride in our contributions to the
intellectual development of individual Armstrong students. Among
these contributions to students are:
|
|
The intellectual
skills of analysis, communication, problem solving, and organization
that are essential to being good citizens and successful professionals.
|
|
|
Enhanced abilities
to appreciate a wide range of human experience and creativity.
|
|
|
An increased understanding of
the extent to which personal and societal values affect
the lives of individuals and the history and direction of
communities.
|
|
|
Preparation to understand
and improve the structures of the society, and, when necessary,
to challenge those structures and replace them with better
ones. |
|
|
Reminders that their
community is really a global community and their personal
visions are incomplete until they are a global vision. |
|
|
Increased proficiency
as independent learners providing a basis for a life-time
of productive and joyful learning. |
