Over the years Armstrong has enjoyed many generations of non-traditionally aged students who bring a wealth of experience, expertise and motivation to our classrooms. These same students, however, often have very special scheduling needs because of work and family responsibilities. We have developed three special scheduling mechanisms we have put into place to serve these students: the Weekend College, a Mini-term Rotation, and the Evening Program.

Weekend College: Some years ago we realized that many non-traditional students have more time to attend classes on Friday evening and Saturday than during other times during the week. To this end, we always have a rich set of offerings available during those hours. More importantly, we have a carefully orchestrated rotation of courses that will allow any student to complete the Core of the University System of Georgia attending only on weekends.

Mini-Term Rotation: More recently we realized that non-traditional students are often better able to commit to 7-week terms than to 15-week terms. The shorter term allows them to work around trips mandated by their work or plan around medical procedures for their children or aging parents. To this end, each Fall and Spring semester we offer a variety of courses in two shortened terms: Session 2 ends at roughly midterm of the 15-week semester while Session 3 begins at mid-term and ends at the same time as the 15-week semester ends. For these courses too we have a rotation of courses that will allow any student to complete the Core of the University System of Georgia attending only during mini-terms.

Evening Program: Since the early days at Armstrong, the evening program has been an important part of the services we provide to non-traditional students. Built around classes that begin at times like 4:30 pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:30 pm, this program has served thousands of students over the last four decades. The academic services that are available in the evening are too numerous to mention, but they include full access to the Core Curriculum and the ability to earn an Associate in Arts degree and baccalaureate degrees in majors such as economics, English, English (Communications), general studies, history, information technology, nursing (post-licensure students only), and psychology.
